Grams to cups, by ingredient
100 g of flour is not 100 g of sugar. A cup measures volume; grams measure weight — so the conversion changes with every ingredient. Pick yours, type the grams, and get cups, tablespoons and the nearest kitchen fraction.
For example: 250 g of all-purpose flour is 2.08 cups (about 2 1/8 cups). The same 250 g of granulated sugar is only 1.25 cups.

Frequently asked questions
How many grams are in a cup?
It depends entirely on the ingredient, because a cup measures volume, not weight. A cup of all-purpose flour is 120 g, a cup of granulated sugar is 200 g, a cup of honey is 340 g and a cup of cocoa powder is only 85 g. There is no single grams-per-cup number — always convert by ingredient.
Is 250 grams equal to 1 cup?
Only for ingredients that happen to weigh about 250 g per cup, like peanut butter (258 g). 250 g of flour is about 2.08 cups, 250 g of sugar is 1.25 cups, and 250 g of water is just over 1 cup (237 g per cup). Pick your ingredient above and enter 250 to get the exact answer.
How do I convert grams to cups without a scale?
Find your ingredient in the converter, enter the grams from the recipe, and read off the cup value. We also show the nearest common kitchen fraction (like 2 1/8 cups) plus tablespoons and teaspoons, so you can measure with the spoons you already own.
Why do US and metric recipes give different results?
This converter uses the US cup of 240 ml and standard published ingredient weights. A metric cup is 250 ml — about 4% larger — so for a metric recipe, add roughly 4% to the cup amounts shown here. Grams never change, which is why weighing is the safer method.
What is the difference between spooned and scooped flour?
Scooping flour straight from the bag with the measuring cup packs it down and can add 15–20% extra flour. Spooning flour into the cup and levelling it off gives the standard 120 g per cup that this chart uses — and much more reliable bakes.
Are the weights on this page exact?
They are the standard published weights used by major recipe and baking references, spooned and levelled unless a note says otherwise. Real ingredients vary a little by brand, humidity and how you fill the cup, so treat conversions as accurate to within a few grams — and weigh when a recipe is fussy.
